I ran across this very simple recipe from noted pastry chef Gale Gand via her Italian mother-in-law. Sweet enough, but not cloyingly sweet. Kinda round, but not perfectly shaped. Crispy on the outside, soft, moist and lovely on the inside thanks to the ricotta cheese. And we fell in love.
Christmas dinner in Chinatown at Lao Bejing. We waited almost a half-hour for anything to be served. We were never served water or the spicy slaw that the restaurant offers all diners at the start of the meal. We had chopsticks and napkins. Soup served after the rest of the meal was tasteless and gelatinous. The kitchen must have been a disaster. Steve threw a fork in frustration. You go, Steve!
As a general rule, the FoodBeest doesn’t bake. I prefer savory to sweet and I don’t like to fuss with the exact proportions necessary for baking. Still, even for me, these are easy and delicious.The two of us ate everything but four of them.
